SPN - ep. 8.1 Warning! Spoilers!

Okay, read no further if you have yet to see the ep!

Still there? Yay \o/!

I wish I could say that I loved it, but I am entirely on the fence. First off - I was entirely unimpressed with the vet who I must assume is Amelia. I mean, really?! Any vet who yells at a person who just brought in a dog they accidentally hit, imply that they hit the dog on purpose, and guilts them into taking the dog without checking to see if they could look after a badly injured animal and give them a home, is incredibly unprofessional - not to mention perhaps difficult to make into someone the audience would like. The show has had some great female characters - Ellen, Charlie, Sheriff Mills - but seems to fall down when it comes to romance. Given the audience reaction to potential romances in the past, you'd think that the writers would be more careful making them likeable and sympathetic.
Okay, on to Benny and what's going on between the brothers.
Could they have made Sam seem more unlikeable??? I don't think so. They did try, by almost making him a puppy killer, but really?!!! They had him forget his brother pretty much immediately after he disappeared and, from the sounds of it, take up with Amelia very soon after that. They had agreed to have real lives after other 'deaths', but in each case they did still try to find/help the other, but this time pffft! Nothing! Made me just want to smack him!
Yes, he did drop everything to go and be with Dean, but it was almost like he would have been happier to see Dean stay gone. *humph*
Okay, Benny. Gotta say, like the accent! But am really wondering what happened to make them *brothers* and Dean be happier to talk to him than Sam. I do like how Dean seems guilty about whatever he's done in purgatory, and apparently knows he's a bit over the line on right/wrong on his relationship with Benny, given how he's trying to hide it. Very much shades of Ruby/Sam - though, hopefully, without the sex. (However I'm sure there's a ton of slash fic being written as we speak.) I'll have to give the writers the benefit of the doubt with this one and hope that they don't rip the brotherly relationship to shred as IT THE CENTRAL PLOT OF THE SHOW!  - a point that they seem to forget on occasion.
Anyway, that's my short rant before I have to go to work. Would love to hear what anyone else has to say.

(Thanks to Tari roo for suggesting the spoiler cut :) )

At last I have watched it and in my usual fashion for recent seasons of SPN - I have adopted the wait and see approach :)

I must say though that Dean in purgatory.... HOT! *fans self* I too am iffy about the vet thing, but chalk it up to the usual crabbiness they seem to inject into the romance characters the guys like.

I loved Crowley as usual and am of course intrigued about what happened to Cas... and on the whole, I'm just glad the boys are back and fighting and being stupid ;)

I totally agree with the wait and see! I'm trying to avoid any spoilers about up-coming eps as I don't want to form any opinions before seeing the whole thing. (In future will definitely use the cut on my posts!)
And, oh yes, Dean in purgatory was definitely drool worthy. I like how they've got his hair. It looks a little darker and they're not spiking it as much as before. Sam... still lookin' good, but would it kill him to get a trim?!

I like darker!Dean :) Although... in my obsessive nature, I did notice that out of purgatory Dean was spiking his hair again ;( But yes, Sam and the long straggling hair. I wonder sometimes if Jared has any say over his hair or if its all a production decision... I think its Jared, as he went a straggling route in Gilmore Girls too...

I don't know why they keep destroying the boys' relationship. It's the heart of the show. I haven't watched this season (I downloaded the episodes) because I didn't want to kill the muse while I was writing and the boys not getting along tends to do that. I thought that being the one who gave us the samulet and the classic that is Mystery Spot, Carver would care about the epic bond. Sigh. I'm still hoping he's going somewhere with this :(

I think the writers believe that conflict keeps the show interesting - personally I would love it if they had them happy and working together as a team, except that then they'd have to put more oomph into the supernatural storyline.
Don't want to spoil the eps for you, so all I'll say is that so far this season, the bond is buried really, really deep.... *must believe in the Carver.... must believe in the Carver...* ;)
